The Herdade da Casa Velha
is located close to the coast in the Alentejo with wide-stretching cork-oak forestscentury-old olive groves and pastures for beef cattle and the famous black pigs (Porco Alentejano).
The area is situaded right between the capital Lisbon and the Algarve with many sights and great historical value. The Herdade lies about 5km northwest of Cercal do Alentejo at the main road from Cercal to Sinesclose to the district of Porto Covo. A trip to the coast and the Ilha do Pessegueiro only takes about 10-15 minutes by car, Ourique only takes half an hour.
The Estate
The Herdade da Casa Velha stretches over a total area of 650.4 hectares (6 500 400 square metres).
The Lake
The reservoir can hold 500 000 hl of water and is used for the irrigation of agricultural crop land of 60 hectares. There is the possibility of creating a second reservoir and thus increasing the area of irrigated land.
The storage lake with its partially flat watersides is ideal for bathing, fishing and rowing.
